We all know someone, maybe we are someone...
And yet, no one knows a perpetrator
The Non-consensual project aims to show just how many of us have been subjected to Non-Consensual Sexual Contact.
By gathering personal stories and counting submissions, NCP wants to highlight to society the scale of the issue and the effect it has on those who are subjected to it.

Fighting to be seen
NON
An estimated 13% of women and 6% of men have experienced sexual coercion in their lifetime (i.e., unwanted sexual penetration after being pressured in a nonphysical way); and 27.2% of women and 11.7% of men have experienced unwanted sexual contact.
CONSENSUAL
Approximately 1 in 21 men (4.8%) reported that they were made to penetrate someone else during their lifetime; most men who were made to penetrate someone else reported that the perpetrator was either an intimate partner (44.8%) or an acquaintance (44.7%).

Recorded statistIcs - UK
The CSEW estimated that 1.1 million adults aged 16 years and over experienced sexual assault in the year ending March 2022 (798,000 women and 275,000 men). This equates to a prevalence rate of approximately 2.3% of adults (3.3% women and 1.2% men).
A total of 193,566 sexual offences were recorded by the police in England and Wales in the year ending March 2022, which is the highest level recorded. This was an increase of 30,322 compared with the year ending March 2020 and an increase of 45,731 from the previous year (Figure 3).
Although decreases were seen in the years ending March 2020 and March 2021, likely because of national lockdown restrictions, the number of sexual offences recorded by police has been increasing since the year ending March 2012. Therefore, the most recent increase is in line with trends seen before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The statistics show increases in incidents, the poor reporting numbers and some insight into the police responses. However, the statistics are not telling the whole story. When I speak to friends, colleagues and family members it is almost every single person that has a story of a non consensual sexual act that they were subjected too. Not just that but many have multiple incidences to speak of.
So how is it we all know someone who has experienced it and yet no one who has perpetrated it.
It's time to speak up, to be heard and for the facts to speak for themselves. I started this project to give people a voice and to create a live counter to show just how big an issue this is so we can demand action in preventing future generations being subjected to the same.
